Information about my Discovery

This page describes what I have modified on my Discovery, mostly to get more offroad capability. This is and has always been a daily driver. Now when I have got the 90 this one will see less offroad tracks. Some of the modifications has been done with help from attacking trees...

Modifications

Front spoilerPictureThe front spoiler has been removed and the lower half of the bumper endcaps has been cut off. I did this before it would be totally broken. It had some scratches, especially on the endcaps.
auxiliary lampsPictureI installed Hella Rallye 3000 auxiliary lamps on the A bar. The winters in Sweden can be quite dark so they will be needed.
Suspension liftTo be able to fit larger tires Old Man Emu heavy duty springs was installed. This lifted the vehicle about 6cm. Old Man Emu shock absorbers and steering damper was also fitted. At the same time I removed the swaybars. They are not really needed with the HD springs.
TiresNew tires. 235/85-16 BF Goodrich Trac Edge. These are about 32 inches tall so it gave me about 5cm more clearance under the axles than the stock tires. I wanted a good allround tire that would be ok on our icy winter roads and in muddy terrain. The tires are mounted on heavy duty Wolf rims (used by the brittish military).
Larger WheelarchesPictureI have cut about 5cm of metal both in front of and behind the wheels. Wheelarch flares are from a Disco II.  Now my tires doesn't rub anywhere.
Under Body ProtectionFor some protection I have installed a steering guard and diffguards
A-bar damageUnfortunately I destroyed my A-bar. Then I lost both the front recovery points and my auxillary lightning. For new recovery points I installed two JATE rings in the front of the frame.
Load space shelfTo be able to stow some equipment in drawers and still have some room for other things I built a shelf for the rear compartment.
Heavy Duty Steering rodsI changed to heavy duty steering and trackrods and moved the steering damper in front of the axle (protected by the steering guard)
RoofrackFor vacations and that expedition look I got a Safety Devices Highlander roofrack, with 4 Hella Rallye 3000FF, on the roof.
SnorkelPictureIt's not fun to find mud in the air filter box... So a Mantec snorkel was a must.

CB RadioFor inter-car communication a Danita 1240 on a "quick release" is mounted on the back of the cubby box.
Diff lockI broke my rear diff, so I exchanged it to a rebuilt one with an ARB air locker. I also upgraded the halfshafts to heavy duty ones from Ashcroft Transmissions
Air compressorThe ARB air locker needs air pressure to engage, so I installed an A/C compressor from an old Volvo. I can also refill my tires with it.

Prop shaftThe rebuilt diff has an older style four-bold flange against the prop shaft. Instead of exchanging the flange I replaced the prop shaft to one from an '85 Range Rover. Then I also got rid of the rubber coupling that has needed to be changed once a year.
Webasto heaterOn cold winter days it's nice to get into a warm car. I can start it with a timer or remote control.

Heavy Duty front bumperPictureMy front bumper got to many hits from trees etc. So I changed it to a heavy duty one from Terrainmaster.
Battery isolatorI Put in a auxiliary battery with a Hellroaring BIC95150B battery isolator. This allows the starting battery to be charged before the auxiliary battery. The extra battery will mainly be used to run the Webasto heater.
